Makeup trends change every season. You may see bright, bold lips on the runway one season and muted, neutral lips the next. Do you rock cat eyes and sultry red lips (a la Dita Von Teese), or prefer lightly-lined eyes paired with nude lips for a natural look?
I believe every girl should have a favourite lipstick or lip gloss she can turn to for everyday, wearable lips. My eyes are almost always heavily-lined, and honestly, I think a strong eye goes best with barely-there lips.
For everyday lips, find a colour which flatters your skin tone. A good colour to pick would be Benefit Cosmetics' Full-Finish Lipstick in Lady's Choice - a neutral, dusty rose pink which I'm seen wearing here. The beauty of neutral lips? They go with everything! Light lip colours are also work-appropriate; they give you a polished, professional look.

If you prefer the shine of a lip gloss, you'll be spoilt for choice. From sheer and shimmery to ultra shiny, there's a gloss out there to cater to every preference. I like to add a dash of coral to brighten up my face. I'm wearing Benefit Cosmetics' Ultra Shines Lip Shine in Spiked Punch here - a sheer, juicy coral that's cheery and great for work and play! If you already have lipstick on, consider dabbing some lip gloss on the center of your lips for a fuller pout.

However, if you have dry, chapped lips, no amount of lipstick or lip gloss will hide them. If you have the habit of licking your lips, stop! Your lips will dry out and peel, and you will feel tempted to bite on the peeling skin, which will leave your lips raw and painful (and in some cases, bleeding). Not a good sight! Try hydrating your delicate lips with a lip balm. This is especially important as lip balms contains ingredients which help to repair and protect your lips. Look out for lip balms containing natural ingredients such as shea butter, beeswax and coconut oil - these will help your lips get better. You will hardly find me without a lip balm! I have a stash of lip balms in my beauty box. They are essential for healthy, soft lips. For a smoother lipstick application, try applying lip balm before lipstick (especially if you are wearing a matte lipstick, which tends to dry out the skin more).
So pucker up and show off those lips!
