Close-up Confidence

There’s no denial what we love most about the holidays are the parties. Whether it’s dinner reservations with friends at the hottest restaurant in town, a sumptuous, home-cooked feast with family or a rowdy, dance-‘til-dawn escapade with colleagues, holiday festivities always means lots of fun. With lots of fun comes lots of pictures, so be sure your pearly-whites are camera-ready!

Here are our favourite tips to brighten and whiten teeth the natural way:

1. It’s common sense to brush at least twice a day, but make sure flossing is always in the equation! It’s the little bits of food that get stuck that contribute to overall bad oral hygiene.

2. Reduce the cigarettes! Nicotine stains are among the hardest to get out because they get yellower with time.

3. Strawberries are a good whitening agent. Mash up some into a paste and brush them on. Leave on the teeth for five minutes, then rinse well.

4. The inside of an orange peel is particularly effective as well. You may rub this on directly, or create a paste out organic dried orange peel and ground bay leaves. Brush it on and rinse well after five minutes.

5. Another solution to try is lemon juice and salt, but be very gentle as the coarseness of the salt and acidity of the lemon juice may sting a bit.

6. A tried and tested alternative is baking soda, which is known for its cleansing properties. Mix a bit of it with salt, or even into the strawberry paste suggested above.

7. Chewing raw, healthy food such as fruits and veggies provide natural abrasion to clean teeth before stains can settle.
