Early Riser vs. Night Owls

A favorite topic of debate on a lazy day is on who has it better: night owl or early-risers? We attempt to lay out the pros and cons just to see the interesting ways one can manage time, depending on the time of day.

Early Risers, on really good days, can wake up before the crack of dawn. The sky is still dark but their bodies don't need sunlight to ease out the sleep hormone melatonin from their bodies. They enjoy the smell of morning mist, and on really good days, head out for a healthy jog. They get the freshest produce at the markets. The "morning rush" is unheard of to them because they beat the rush. They have enough time to do their hair, put on makeup and squeeze in a healthy breakfast just because they can. Morning persons are able to clear things off their task list before noon, which is quite a feat for a night owl. As the day progresses though, energy levels tend to drop by mid-afternoon, and suffice to say, bedtime is always early. They rise and retire along with the sun. Staying up or staying out late can be done, but not on a regular basis.

Night Owls, by nature, are certainly not morning persons. If they had the liberty to sleep til noon, they probably would. Unlike their counterparts, they find that their energy levels begin to rise at a much later part of the day. Mornings are hazy and sleepy; without caffeine or a proper stimulant, it's quite easy for them to remain in a blurred state. It's a conscious effort to complete tasks before noon, only because their minds are not fully in the zone just yet. The pace kicks in only by mid-afternoon up until the sun begins to set. When evening comes they are fully charged. Needless to say these are the people who can stay up all night, and not always just to party. When the city is asleep, they say this is the best time to hear your thoughts.

So which one are you? If you're a morning person and your daily schedule is perfectly in tune, then good for you. If you're like us and fall under the level of insomniacs, best advice would be not to fight your natural tendencies but don't let it get in the way of your day job. Instead, get to know yourself really well and work out a system for your system. Either way, it's you put into those hours to make your life count, that really count.
