Island in the Sun

When you’ve got a bunch of foreign, well-travelled friends to Singapore, who are jaded with museums, theme parks historic sites and the like, you may suddenly realize that you have no idea where to take them. Eating, Sleeping, Working and Shopping – that’s pretty much the itinerary for a typical Singaporean weekend.

So where in Singapore would interest your friends from faraway? Here are a few ideas for a special one day indulgence of local favourites.

Morning: Have a Singaporean breakfast and order all your favourites;  chee cheong fun, yam cake, abacus seeds, char kway and top if up with that satisfying cup of Soya Bean Milk at Bedok Hawker Center before heading down to East Coast Park. Then, get the most of the Singaporean sun at Ski360 and get an hour or two of beginner’s extreme water fun.

Afternoon: Lunch at the iconic Ka Soh restaurant on Telok Ayer street for your fill on local chinese fare and then lose the carbs by climbing up neighbouring Club Street. Charm your friends with Club Street’s chi-chi cafes, boutiques and old world vibe. Walk down to Smith Street and enjoy the bliss of having little fish eat away your dead skin at Kenko Fish Spa.

Evening: Head down for more shopping at Haji Lane. Sip tea at and enjoy life, watching the world pass by at Pluck while considering taking home some unique lifestyle items. Later on, walk down to 100 year old restaurant Zam Zam for their famous murtabak and other delicious Indian Muslim fare. Then enjoy a joint of shisha at one of the many cafes on Arab Street. If your friends are still hungry for more, end of with a sweet note at Rochor Beancurd.

If you have the convenience of a car: Drive up to Mount Faber and enjoy the city lights from up and above.
