Flattering bags for your body type?

Alright ladies, ‘fess up - we can never have too many bags. The handbag is the perfect accessory. It’s practical, and can bring your everyday outfit from meh to fashionista! However, do you know that choosing the right handbag for your body type is like picking out a pair of jeans? Here at CozyCot, we’ll show you how to select a flattering bag, to make you look better, and give you a boost of confidence!

As a general rule, your bag shape should be the opposite of your body type, so the curvier you are, the more angular your handbag should be.

Petite

Petite ladies have a small, slender frame that’s dainty and attractive, so play up that factor! This body type can pull off most bag shapes – the key is the size of the bag. Pick a small to medium-sized bag that doesn’t overwhelm your frame.

Tall & Skinny

You lucky girl, you. Blessed with the ideal model figure, you can get away with just about anything. A rounded shape like a slouchy hobo bag is perfect for you, as it provides contrast to your frame. However, avoid short handles as they can look disproportionate on you – opt for long handles to accentuate your height!

Curvy

If you’re curvy like the gorgeous Kim Kardashian, go for a structured bag, which will have a slimming effect on you. Avoid shoulder bags that sit below the waist, instead, pick those that end just above the waist as they’re the most flattering for you!

Pear-shaped

Pear-shaped ladies can pull off most bag shapes, but should take note of the length of the bag. Bags that hang above the hips are ideal, as they will help to balance out your heavier bottom. Avoid those that fall on the hips, as they can draw unwanted attention to this area!

Apple-shaped

If you tend to gain weight around your mid-section, try shifting the attention to the hip area by carrying bags with longer handles. Try messenger or crossbody bags to balance out your silhouette, but be sure to pick bags that are proportionate to your body size as well.

Plus-size

Big is beautiful! Flatter your assets with a structured bag which can make you look slimmer. Avoid bags that are too big or too small, instead, go for a medium-sized bag with short to medium-length straps, as they will complement you!

The Top 3 Fashion Trends to Shop for This Fall

It could be 30 degrees and humid this very moment but who says you can’t dress up for Fall in hot and sunny Singapore? Well, if you are already starting to wonder what to wear in this insanely hot weather, we might have just read your mind! Guess what? The CozyCot team is here to share with you The Top 3 Most Wearable Fashion Trends this Fall!

Fall 2013 Trend #1: Winter White

“Wear black to attract the heat.” “Don’t wear white after Labour Day.”

If you’re still following outdated fashion rules, allow us to set you free. All of us at CozyCot do not really understand the whole wear-white-don’t-wear-white debate, but we believe that such fashion rules are meant to be broken. Well, even if they were relevant at one time, it’s 2013!

We always feel that there’s something oh-so-classy about wearing white and guess what? The designers thought the same thing this season. White has been a major fall trend in the recent years and we love how easy it is to wear!

For those of you who aren’t fans of white, we totally feel you. You must be thinking that they are either too sheer or are simply a magnet for stains. If that’s the case, you’d probably be better off wearing some other darker shades!

Fall 2013 Trend #2: Knit Beanies

Having a bad hair day? Fret not, as knit beanies are here to save your day! Coincidentally, these fabulous knits are in the fashion trend for Fall 2013 that everyone seems to agree on.

Oh did we also mention that they are the most budget friendly trends of the season? These practical and easy-to-wear headgears are a simple add-on accessory to just about any outfit and that’s not all! They can also dress up or down your look, depending on how they are styled. Let’s just take an everyday look for an example. All you need is a pair of boyish shorts, a knitted sweater and a pair of flat shoes, topped off with a knit beanie and you’re good to go!

Get what we mean? We just can’t emphasize enough on how much we love knit beanies.

Fall 2013 Trend #3: Slouchy Pants

Which woman doesn’t like to look good and feel comfortable when they’re out on the town shopping? Well, definitely not us, especially when the slouchy pants trend is here to stay!

We know what you’re thinking. These may look and feel like pyjamas, but don’t be too quick to judge. For all you know, they might just be your new favourite pants to own! When styled the right way, these slouchy pants can make your outfit look oh-so-chic and fit your personal style like a glove. That’s the essence of slouchy pants – maximum comfort, minimal effort.

The one thing to keep in mind when shopping for fall’s slouchy pants is to make sure that they aren’t too big for you, unless you want to risk looking frumpy. But just before you jump on the slouchy pants bandwagon, you might want to check out some of these stylish pairs and a few ways to wear them!

Strengthen your scalp for beautiful hair with head and shoulders!

Before you can achieve beautiful hair, it is essential to understand the most common factors affecting hair health. Dandruff is one of the most common scalp problems, affecting almost half of the population across the globe. Dandruff doesn’t stop at being a physical problem. A flaky scalp can look unhygienic and become a constant source of embarrassment and discomfort. Without proper care and treatment, serious cases of dandruff can seriously affect the sufferer’s confidence and self esteem thus escalating into a social and even a psychological issue.

What causes dandruff?

Being the part of our bodies with the densest hair growth, our scalp is a warm, conducive environment for the growth of many microorganisms. To protect itself from these microorganisms, the scalp produces sebum. Unfortunately, an organism known as Malassezia, has adapted to thrive in areas with more natural oils. Malassezia produces oleic acid, which causes the irritation of the top layer of our skin. This leads to an increased turnover of skin cells, which clump together to form the flakes of dandruff.

Arm yourself with these basic tips to ward off that scaly monster:

1. Don’t avoid shampooing your hair

A common misconception is that shampooing your hair on a daily basis is harmful for your hair. On the contrary, shampooing your hair helps to get rid of excess oil and cleanse your scalp of the hair products that you use daily. Shampoo and condition your hair with Head & Shoulders to remove daily buildup and prevent your hair follicles from being clogged.

2. Never over wash your hair

Though it is important to wash your hair, always remember that there can be too much of a good thing. If your scalp itches and flakes, it is not always because you don’t wash it enough. In our tropical climate, it is advisable to shampoo your hair with Head & Shoulders once or twice a day depending on your lifestyle, but overdoing it can strip your scalp of the natural oil that is produced to protect and hydrate the area. In certain cases, washing your hair too often can aggravate an oily scalp and cause it to produce even more oil or completely dry out a dry scalp. For daily usage, choose a thorough yet gentle formula like Head & Shoulders’ Clean and Balanced, it is PH balanced and gentle enough for everyday use.

3. Shower at the right temperature

When the skin is exposed to extreme temperatures, it is at a higher risk of developing dandruff. So wash your hair with cool water to avoid irritating your scalp and the rest of your skin. Try Head & Shoulders’ Cool Menthol Shampoo and Conditioner for a cleaner, fresher feel.

4. Select the most suitable products

Head & shoulders offers a wide range of products, which is able to cater to your unique needs. With a separate range for men and women and formulas ranging from mild to extra strength, pick out the best products to suit your scalp’s condition, hair type and even your lifestyle needs.

5. Improve blood circulation

Head massages can help you relax and improve blood circulation to your scalp so as to improve hair health. In circular motions, massage Head & Shoulders to your scalp with your fingertips. Use your knuckles or the pads of your fingers if you have long nails. Do not scratch your scalp as that could cause irritation and aggravate the condition of your sensitive scalp.

Quick fixes for bad hair days

A lady’s confidence always takes a huge hit every time she encounters bad hair days. Worst of all, bad hair days always seem to coincide with important dates. Go from bad hair to beautiful hair in minutes with these simple styles and hold your head up high.

For Long hair

Top knot

Work a small amount of Pantene Protect and Care Treatment throughout your hair, then use a hair dryer to blow at the roots of your hair with your head upside down. This will allow you to create volume while shaping your hair. Then, toss all your hair back and pull it up to the top of your head in a ponytail. Continue by twisting your hair and wrapping it around itself. After all your hair has been coiled up, simply use a regular elastic hair tie to fasten the base of the bun. Skip the step of brushing your hair as having your hair perfectly smoothed out can cause this style to look matronly. In addition, this season’s hottest hairstyles are chic in a messy, effortless way.

Side braid

Brush your hair to untangle it, and then prep hair with Pantene Smooth and Silky Treatment to tame unruly hair while treating it. After smoothing the treatment lotion thoroughly through your hair, comb it all to one side to start forming your braid. For a more relaxed look, only start braiding your hair near the nape of your neck. After your done, separate out the sections of your braid out for a looser look. Bump up the top section of hair at the back of your head to create more volume.

Messy pony

Similar to the method used to prep hair for the top knot, work a small amount of Pantene Protect and Care Treatment throughout your hair, then use a hair dryer to blow at the roots of your hair with your head upside down. Without using a brush or comb, pull your hair back into a ponytail and fasten it with a thin elastic hair band. Then take a small portion of hair from the bottom of your ponytail and wrap it around the elastic band to hide it. Lastly, secure the hair in place with two bobby pins by pushing them into the base of the ponytail.

For Medium-length styles

Lazy side bun

For easier styling, first apply Pantene Always Smooth Leave on Treatment, concentrating on the bottom half of your hair, which is more prone to tangling. Then, take sections of hair from one side of your head and braid it towards the other side and fasten them with bobby pins. Tie the rest of your hair into a ponytail, twist it to form a loose bun and fasten with elastic hair bands. Once you’re done, set the hairstyle with Hairspray. To put your own spin on this look, add your favourite embellished hair accessories to the bun.

Beach-ready updo

Start by smoothing Pantene Total Damage Care treatment into your hair while focusing on the ends. Then starting from the front of your crown, work small amounts of texturizing wax into sections of hair, twist it towards the back and secure them with bobby pins. Work from the middle of your head towards the sides. Repeat these steps for the hair from your crown all the way down to just above your ear. Take all your remaining hair and twist it at the back of your head into a flat, messy bun and secure it with bobby pins. End off by slightly separating all of the twisted sections. This covers up any bald spots and makes your hair look like it has been caressed by the sea breeze all day.

Side twist

Start by parting your hair down middle, as side twists look the best proportioned this way. Brush your hair to smooth the sides out towards the back. Starting with one side, take a section of your hair closest to the front of your head and twist it in one direction, pulling it towards the back of your head. Once you’re done, secure the ends to the back of your head with bobby pins. Repeat the same steps on the other side. For a more polished, elegant look, apply Pantene Natural Shine Leave On Treatment throughout your hair before styling.

For short hair

Accessorize

To spruce up unruly hair that is too short for updos, simply smooth out hair with Pantene Smooth and Silky Treatment and accessorize. Invest in more elaborate hair accessories that can glam up any look and tame crazy hair at the same time.

Bed hair

Channel insouciant chic with bed hair. To create the perfect toussled locks out of limp, matted hair, spritz small sections of your hair with Hairspray. Starting from the crown, work your way toward the sides. With each section, slightly backcomb and tease your hair with a fine tooth comb just before the hairspray sets. To avoid buildup that may irritate your scalp, thoroughly cleanse your hair and scalp with your favourite Pantene shampoo at the end of the day.

It’s a wrap

When all else fails, simply wrap up your hair with your favourite scarf or any readymade head wrap. These come in various materials, allowing you to create any look from the quirky to luxe. Tame the unruly hair that is not covered by the bandeau with Pantene Always Smooth Leave On Treatment.

I love a good mask like the VitaLift A+ Mask, which is designed to hold a thousand times its weight in water. Therefore, when you use the mask, it helps plump up the skin and reduce the look of fine lines. Wrinkles are formed when the skin loses collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. This mask contains peptides, which help to relax the collagen and elastin in your face, without the side effects of Botox.

Greatest hair myths

Myth 1: Always comb your hair from root to end

Hair-care product commercials almost always feature models combing their hair from root to end to reflect how shiny and smooth the product can make your hair. However, doing that can cause more breakage, especially when your hair is damp. By combing your hair from root to tip, you are also pulling entangled hair downwards and causing them to accumulate into a huge knot close to the ends. The best way to comb your hair is actually to start from the ends and move upwards in sections. This minimizes the stress placed on your hair, as the ends would be detangled before you start combing the hair above it. Wash, condition and treat your hair with products from Pantene’s Silky & Smooth series to prevent tangling and to promote smoother, silkier locks.

Myth 2: Mayonnaise and olive oil are better than commercial conditioners

Though mayonnaise and olive oil do have moisturizing properties, they may not be suitable for all hair types. People with fine, limp or sparse hair would very likely cause their hair to look greasy and heavy once they replaced their conditioner with these household staples. For intense moisture and to repair the damage of various heated styling tools, try Pantene’s Total Damage Care Conditioner helps repair severely damaged hair.

Myth 3: If you have oily, limp hair, skip conditioner

Oily, limp hair is caused by the excessive production of sebum by the scalp so skipping conditioner would only dry out your hair but not solve the problem. Instead, those with greasy, limp hair can use Pantene’s Nature Care Fullness and Life Shampoo to provide a gentle cleanse and offer your hair more lift and body. For moisture renewal without weighing your hair down, treat yourself to Pantene’s Nature Care Smoothness and Life Conditioner. Apply conditioner only from the mid-section to the ends of your hair so that it does not come into direct contact with your scalp.

Myth 4: Change your shampoo and conditioner regularly for the best results

Contrary to popular belief, hair does not get accustomed to hair products or become resistant to their effects. Instead, build-up and residue from many styling products can cause the effects of your hair care products to diminish. Thoroughly cleanse your hair and scalp with a clarifying shampoo once every week or once a fortnight to remove excess build-up in your hair, and you should be able to see continued results from your favorite Pantene products.

Hottest runway hair trends of fall 2013

Low pony

This season’s runway featured hair pulled back around the nape of the neck in three distinct styles:

1. Sleek and severely parted – Wear your hair completely slicked back with a precise parting to create a strikingly bold look that makes a statement.

For the best effect, wash and condition hair with products from Pantene’s Nourished Shine range to moisturize and prevent flyaways, making hair shiny and smooth. Then work Pantene’s Always Smooth Leave On Treatment into your hair from root to tip to smoothen hair before gathering your hair into a low ponytail at the nape of your neck.

2 Messy and haphazardly effortless – Leave your hair undone at the sides to flaunt a devil may care attitude.

To achieve this look, wash and condition hair with Pantene’s Nature Care Fullness and Life Shampoo and Conditioner – it revitalizes weak & dried hair with fullness & shine. After tying your low ponytail, loosen the hair at the sides and you’re ready to go.

3. Voluminous and bouncy – Create a more romantic and feminine look with a slightly poufed-up crown and curled ends.

Prep your hair with Pantene’s Natural Shine Leave On Treatment before blow-drying with a large round brush. To create and maintain volume at the crown, pull hair upward and use some Hairspray at the roots. After securing your ponytail, apply Pantene Protect and Care Treatment to your hair ends until it is completely absorbed then curl the ends with a large curling iron.

The wet look

This alluringly relaxed look has been repeatedly paired with exquisitely tailored garments to provide high-contrast on the runway. Possibly the easiest, most low-maintenance look that’s currently in vogue, the wet look can be achieved within minutes, right after shampooing and conditioning your hair with your favourite Pantene products. To nourish and protect your hair all day while looking right on trend, simply use Pantene’s Intensive Repair Leave On Treatment together with Pantene’s Damage Oil to create a richer texture. Massage a desired amount of these products into your hair thoroughly from root to tip and run a wide-toothed comb through your tresses to finish off.

Over the top volume

Stylists are pumping-up the volume this season with explosive manes. It’s all about big curls with intentional flyaways that look just a tad crazy. While creating your own version of this look, protect your hair from damage with Pantene Total Damage Care Shampoo and Conditioner. After your wash, towel dry and roll up small sections of your damp hair with small sized rollers, then blow-dry your hair completely. Allow the curls to set and only remove the rollers when they have cooled down. To complete the look, gently back brush through each spiral and set hair with Hairspray.

Undone waves

There’s something undeniably sexy about unfussy hair, as seen in this runway creation of soft, barely-there spirals. This look can go either neo-grunge or romantic depending on the finishing texture. Start by applying Pantene Protect and Care Treatment evenly through hair to give your tresses maximum protection. Turn the temperature on your curling tongs up higher than you usually would, twirl larger sections of hair around the rod and release them within seconds for a similar effect. Skip any high-shine spray for a look that’s effortlessly cool.

Reinvented braids

Braids have been around forever, but this season features some unconventional reiterations. Stylists came up with their own unique twists at each show, with reversed French braids, subtle hidden braids, braids that separated sleek side parted hair and braids integrated into messy up-dos. Work this trend within minutes by sprucing up ultra-clean, minimal side-braids with hair accessories of your choice. To recreate this understated look, prep your hair with Pantene Smooth and Silky Shampoo, Conditioner and Leave On Treatment to prevent breakage and tame unruly hair for effortless styling.
