David beckham delivers olympic torch to britain

Soccer superstar DAVID BECKHAM was in Greece on Thursday (17May12) to pick up the Olympic flame.

The Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder and former England captain joined British royal Princess Anne at a torch handover ceremony in Athens' ancient Panathenaic Stadium, and cracked a smile when the announcer introduced him with the incorrect title "Sir David Beckham". The sports ace then boarded a special golden plane to escort the flame to a naval base in Cornwall, England, ahead of the final countdown to the Games. The opening ceremony in London, to be held not far from Beckham's childhood home, will take place on 27 July (12).
