G. dep loses bid for lesser charge in murder case

The hip-hop star, real name Trevell Coleman, turned himself in to New York police in December, 2010 and confessed to the 1993 shooting of 17-year-old John Henkel during a robbery in East Harlem. He felt compelled to come forward after learning that Henkel had died from his gunshot wounds, and he was subsequently slapped with a second-degree murder charge. Coleman pleaded not guilty to the count and his lawyer has been appealing to prosecutors to issue a lesser charge, considering the circumstances of his confession. The request was denied on Thursday (22Sep11). Prosecutors have offered Coleman a plea deal, although details have not been revealed. If he rejects the offer, he will face trial in November (11), reports AllHipHop.com.
