George lucas reignites property war

STAR WARS mogul GEORGE LUCAS has reignited his property war with his wealthy neighbours, vowing to sell off his land to low-income housing projects following their refusal to accept his proposed expansion.

The legendary director was aiming to build a new digital media production compound on a plot of farmland adjacent to his Skywalker Ranch in California, but angry Marin County residents moved swiftly to shut down Lucas' plans, citing environmental damage and traffic congestion as the reason for their opposition. Earlier this year (12) the moviemaker bowed to their demands, with a representative saying, "We have several opportunities to build the production stages in communities that see us as a creative asset, not as an evil empire." But now the 68 year old has shot back, revealing he's planning to offload the space so developers can build affordable housing in the area. In an email to The New York Times, he writes, "(I want) to do something good for Marin. I've been surprised to see some people characterise this as vindictive. I wouldn't waste my time or money just to try and upset the neighbours." However, several local residents aren't thrilled by the proposal as the construction is likely to lower property value. A North San Rafael Coalition of Residents executive says, "It's inciting class warfare."
