House on the Hill Located in Melbourne, Australia, this unique 'Hill House' from architect Andrew Maynard features a modern interior, large kitchen, beautiful spiral staircase, private backyard - and a hill! The new structure was built in the backyard and faces the family's original house in order to maximise solar access. The architect created an artificial hill on which sits a cantilevered box which acts as a solar eave. The family no longer uses the front door but enters via the side lane - the kitchen has become the nerve centre of the house, and the old house is now the kids' house!
