Secrets of Thumb Rings

Thumb rings have been worn throughout history by men and women.  They are still popular today and what makes them especially interesting and significant, is the symbolism they have. For men, thumb rings signified status by their size and what profession they were by design.  Doctors commonly wore thumb rings during the middle ages. Women used to wear thumb rings to indicate that they lost their husband on a battlefield.  This practice obviously extends back to antiquity and is no longer significant now. The symbolism of thumb rings is that of independence and the use of free will.  It is rumored that women wearing thumb rings signified that they were open to sexual experimentation.  This isn't necessarily true, but it ties in with independent thought. Wearing a thumb ring on your left thumb normally indicates that you are single.  Men wearing a thumb ring on their right thumb can sometimes indicate that they are in a same sex relationship.
