Secrets of Sheer Fabrics

A hot trend at the moment is the sheer, floating, see through fabric we’re seeing everywhere, from overlays to completely diaphanous blouses.

An easy way to get the romantic appeal of sheer fabric, without the exposure, look for pieces that have a lace overlay, with a solid color underlay.

Skirts are a good example of this. There are many pretty pieces out there that have a decorous underlay, with a sheer overlay, either in lace, chiffon and net. When that overlay is gathered or pleated, with an uneven or handkerchief hem, all the better!

Pretty is the key here. Laces, chiffons and net, in any color, are girly, so it’s not about letting it all hang out, but rather about capturing a sense of whimsy in your clothes. Combining your sheer items with utility fabrics like denim or leather is also a hot trend, so have some fun playing with texture, and come up with your own combinations.
