Secrets of Gourmet Vegetarian Cooking

It’s every non vegetarian hostesses worst nightmare – being faced with cooking for a group that includes vegetarians, or even vegans.

Panicking is not an option though, so here are a few tips to make it a little easier for you!
Firstly, you need to establish whether the people you are catering for are vegans, vegetarians, lacto ovo, or even pescatarians. Vegans eat no animal products, while vegetarians, including lacto ovo vegetarians may eat dairy or eggs, or both. Pescatarians actually eat fish and seafood, so they’re not strictly vegetarians.

If you are catering to lacto ovo vegetarians, remember that while they eat cheese, not all cheese is vegetarian – those that use animal rennet, like parmesan, are a no go! Also remember that things like gelatin, and certain stocks, are also animal products, and therefore not suitable for vegetarian guests!

Luckily, there are plenty of vegetarian websites out there, with quick and easy recipes that can help make this a little easier!
