Secrets of Making Your Own Stock

 

Stock is a great addition to any kitchen, and is used in a wide variety of dishes. Using a stock cube is one option, but they’re usually very salty. Good quality stock powders are another option, but while they offer good flavor, they’re not quite the same as making your own stock. Making your own stock is a great alternative. It’s also easier than you think. To make your stock, you will need a large stock pot. Fill with water, and then add your choice of meat, chicken bones, or seafood bones and shells. To this, add peeled and chopped carrot, and a peeled onion. Throw in a few pepper corns, and a bay leaf or two, and season with salt. Once you’ve added all of your ingredients to the pot, all that’s left to do is boil them. This usually takes several hours of slow simmering, to release the flavors from the ingredients.
