Metal furniture and other items are hot décor items, but instead of spending a fortune on pricey items in an antique store or home décor outlet, why not look out for second hand items and do it yourself? To refinish metal, you will want to remove any loose or peeling paint with a scraper, wire brush or sand paper. Once all the old paint has been removed, you can use turpentine to clean the surface of the entire item. This helps to create a surface that paint and other finishes can adhere to. Use a metal primer to coat the item, applying as many as necessary to cover the surface totally, and finish with a enamel paint in your choice of color, again, applying as many coats as necessary. Be sure to use enamel as it wipes clean easily, and make sure that you let each coat dry before applying the next.
