If you are into new age or esoteric things, chances are you already know what smudge sticks are, and how to make them. However, they can be useful in fragrancing a home cheaply too. Smudge sticks are traditionally used for space cleansing, and for rituals, dating back millennia. Since they are made from fragrant herbs, however, and since they smell great when burned, they’re a nice alternative to incense. To make your own smudge sticks, all you need is an assortment of fresh herbs. Smudge sticks usually contain sage, but you can include any other herbs of your choice too. Tie the herbs tightly in a bundle, using string or cord, and then add another string every inch or so. Hang the smudge stick to dry, and once that’s done, it’s ready to burn!
