Audra mcdonald out of broadway hit with inflamed vocal cords

Tony Award winner AUDRA McDONALD has been put on strict vocal rest after damaging her vocal cords performing in Broadway musical THE GERSHWINS PORGY & BESS.

The actress/singer, who picked up a 2012 Tony Award last month (Jun12), has missed a string of shows as she battles to recover from illness and now producers have explained exactly what she's battling. According to theatre news website BroadwayWorld.com, she has been placed on a period of complete vocal rest by her doctor after performing with a respiratory infection last week (ends29Jun12). According to sources, McDonald's vocal cords have become so inflamed she cannot sing. She is scheduled to return to the production on Tuesday (03Jul12).
