Dame vera lynn backs white cliffs campaign

Dame vera lynn backs white cliffs campaign
Veteran singer DAME VERA LYNN is backing a campaign to protect a British landmark named in one of her most famous songs.

The Forces' Sweetheart is supporting efforts by officials at The National Trust to buy the White Cliffs of Dover, on England's south coast, from a private owner to scupper the risk of future development on the land. The headland was historically Brits' first sight of the U.K. when sailing back from mainland Europe and became synonymous with 'home' for soldiers during World War II. Dame Vera, who sang about the landmark in wartime track (There'll Be Bluebirds Over) The White Cilffs of Dover, says, "(The area) should be saved in its entirety."
