Molly meldrum makes first public appearance since fall
Australian music mogul MOLLY MELDRUM was given a standing ovation at the country's ASTRA Awards on Friday (22Jun12) as he made his first public appearance since a fall at his home left him in a coma last year (11).
The industry veteran was placed in an induced coma at a hospital in Melbourne after he tumbled off a ladder while putting up Christmas decorations in December (11), and he subsequently underwent numerous operations, including spinal surgery, to treat his various injuries.
He has since been released and he made his return to the spotlight on Friday for the Australian Subscription Television and Radio Association (ASTRA) Awards in Sydney, being carried onto the stage in an Egyptian chair by four men dressed as slaves.
Meldrum, who presented the Channel of the Year award to Fox Sports, joked, "There's no ladders here, are there? Believe it or not I was a champion of playing snakes and ladders. Maybe I was better with the snakes.
"I want to thank everyone here and around Australia for the support for what I went through."
Other winners at the ceremony included TV series Cloudstreet (Most Outstanding Drama) and Game Of Thrones (Favourite Program - International Drama).
