Public donations flood in to fund amanda palmer's new album

Public donations flood in to fund amanda palmers new album
DRESDEN DOLLS rocker AMANDA PALMER has raised almost $600,000 (£375,000) after appealing for public donations to fund the costs of her new album.

The singer turned to fundraising website Kickstarter.com last week (30Apr12) and asked fans to donate what they could to help with the promotion and distribution of her next project. She had hoped to reach her goal of $100,000 (£62,500) by the end of May (12), but her devotees came out in force and her cause boasted donations of $368,000 (£230,000) from over 6,600 backers within just two days - setting a new record for the value and number of pledges for the website. The funds have continued to roll in - and Dresden is excited at releasing her upcoming disc independently after splitting from Roadrunner Records. In a post on the site, she writes, "i think Kickstarter and other crowdfunding platforms like this are the BEST way to put out music right now - no label, no rules, no fuss, no muss". As - went to press, more than 10,000 people had agreed to invest in the album, raising $590,336 (£368,960) by Tuesday (08May12).
