Rza and vernon reid donate artefacts to local museum
WU-TANG CLAN star RZA and LIVING COLOR rocker VERNON REID have donated personal collectibles to a new musical museum in their native Staten Island, New York.
RZA, real name Robert Fitzgerald Diggs, and Reid both hail from the Big Apple borough and, as part of a new initiative to commemorate the area's cultural roots, city officials have created an exhibit to honour some of Staten Island's most well-known locals.
Island Sounds: A 500 Year Music Mash-Up will open its doors on 12 May (12) at Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden and the space will contain memorabilia, instruments, and artefacts from a range of artists born, raised or based in Staten Island.
Snug Harbor President Lynn Kelly says, "A lot of people don't know about how many musicians came from here, perform here, and still live here today. If you grew up here you might know. Now I want the world to know these are things we should be celebrating."
Also receiving special recognition in the museum are Christina Aguilera, folk singer Joan Baez, songwriter Ingrid Michaelson, New York Dolls star David Johansen and The Archies frontman Ron Dante.
