Will.i.am kept olympic torch carrying secret for a year
BLACK EYED PEAS rapper will.i.am was approached more than a year ago to carry the Olympic torch ahead of the London 2012 Games this summer (12) - and was forced to keep it a secret.
The I Gotta Feeling hitmaker stunned onlookers in the English town of Taunton on Monday (21May12) by carrying the famed flame as part of its 70-day journey around the U.K.
After his run, will.i.am revealed taking part in the relay was a childhood dream come true - and the star admits he was wracked with nerves ahead of the event.
He tells London's Evening Standard, "I got a little bit more nervous this time than anything else I've ever done because holding the flame, the last thing I wanted to do was to make a mistake... I've got Grammys and stuff but this is different."
And will.i.am is planning to put the torch he used in his home as a permanent reminder of the honour: "The decoration of my house is golden brown, so I'm going to be keeping that. I don't do eBay."
The flame will end up at London's Olympic Stadium for the opening ceremony on 27 July (12) and it will burn until the closing ceremony on 12 August (12).
