Product Description:

Books Kinokuniya (紀伊國屋書店, Kinokuniya Shoten) is a Japanese bookstore chain operated by Kinokuniya Company Ltd. (株式会社紀伊國屋書店, Kabushiki-gaisha Kinokuniya Shoten), founded in 1927, with its first store located in Shinjuku, Tokyo. It means "Store of Kii Province".

Kinokuniya was originally a lumber and charcoal dealer in Yotsuya; and after the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, the business was moved westward to a new location in Shinjuku where it was re-fashioned into a book store.

In Japan today, there are 56 stores nationwide.

Since 2000, the Kinokuniya chain in the United States has capitalized on the growing popularity of anime by stocking both English and Japanese-language manga, as well as other anime-related paraphernalia. The New York City branch on 49th Street was the best-known, encompassing, lengthwise, an entire city block. A new store has opened south on 41st Street, and the old store is in the process of closing.

Books Kinokuniya is currently the largest bookstore in Australia and Singapore. It was once the largest bookstore in Indonesia as well as South East Asia, a record it held for nearly ten years thanks to the spacious Ngee Ann City branch in Singapore until the opening of the new Gramedia flagship store in Jakarta in 2007.

Books sold here are of affordable prices (not only books, take note). I've been buying my textbooks and review books here and not once have I been dissatisfied.

Well, since this isn't a product and is a place, I really love Kinokuniya as compared to all the major bookstores in Singapore. Kinokuniya offers a range of books, from all the different languages, and it's really the best place to buy books that are rare in nature in Singapore, and the best part is their books are packaged nicely in plastic, so I won't have to buy some other people's second hand book - which I hate. I love my books clean and nice, so Kinokuniya fits in the bill. The books there might be a little more expensive, but with its membership card, it's really value for money. You can even discount your comic books with that card! Best of all, they often give out freebies that come along with magazines, and it's really a great place to shop for books and relax over a cuppa of coffee.

-laughing- this isn't a product but a really fabulous bookstore that imports lots of Chinese, English and even Japanese magazines and comics. They stock a large range of magazines like Popteen, SWEET, Scawaii but be quick because some magazines sell out a lot quicker than others. [They can do reservations for up to three days and a few weeks if it's an import for you.] Do check their website for updates on when their new arrivals will be coming in. It's a lovely bookstores that has a few branches at places like Ngee Ann City, Liang Court and Bugis Junction [Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there only are 3 branches =X] and the Bugis branch does not stock some Japanese magazines [Mostly to do with Jrock and brands]. They also have Japanese staff so you can even go there to practice your Japanese with them.
