Matthew newton pleads not guilty in miami battery case
Australian actor MATTHEW NEWTON has pleaded not guilty to a battery charge stemming from an alleged altercation at a hotel in Miami, Florida last month (Apr12).

The 35-year-old star was accused of assaulting a clerk at the city's Courtyard Marriott hotel on 17 April (12) in an argument over cell phone reception. He was also charged with resisting arrest without violence for allegedly pulling away when cops tried to handcuff him. Newton's lawyer, John Skerry, filed documents at a court in Miami this week (ends06May12) to enter a not guilty plea on his client's behalf, according to News.com.au. The actor has also pleaded not guilty to charges of trespass and resisting arrest without violence stemming from another incident in Miami earlier in April (12), when he was accused of becoming abusive after being asked to leave a bar.
