  • Cream blush vs. Gel blush vs Powder blush

i just realised that ever since Stella gave me those samples of MAC Stains and CheekHues, I havent even touched my powder blushers. I love my cream/gel blushers because of the staying power and how they give a natural flushed look, that mimics a glow from within.

however, would like to know what you girls think!

do you prefer cream or powder blushers and why?
which do you find has more staying power?
which do you find easier to apply?
    which do you usually use?
what do you think are the pros and cons of each?

i thought it'd be interesting to see the replies.

powder. cream accentuates the pimple scars on my cheeks

which do you find has more staying power?
    cream

which do you find easier to apply?
    powder

    which do you usually use?
    powder

what do you think are the pros and cons of each?
powder - easier to blend (for me) but can look too powdered
cream - has a more natural finish and lasts longer but it's more difficult to blend and accentuated my scars

i like both!!! how?? :p especially those shimer type. maybe depends on mood, if lazy, powder will be easier. if say i need staying power, cream will be the choice.

which do you find has more staying power?
both!! at first i find powder blusher has less staying power, but after using KP's, totally change my point of view.

which do you find easier to apply?
definitely powder is easier to apply, can apply using fingers too!!

      which do you usually use?
powder, coz i m lazy most of the time. :p

what do you think are the pros and cons of each?
hmm....if apply cream, mayb gotta apply very lightly and layer by layer for color intensity, coz if apply too much, dun think i can layer loose powder over it to lighten color. powder blusher is easier to control.

xue, now you've got me lemming for the stains and cheekhues.

powder -- i'm too lazy to blend and blend. plus, i'm not in love with the texture of cream blushers -- kinda greasy?

which do you find has more staying power?
powder. cream blushers don't stay on that great for me; unless they're stains.

which do you find easier to apply?
powder -- just brush on and go!

        which do you usually use?
        powder, i'm lazy!

what do you think are the pros and cons of each?
cream -- natural, great for dewy look
powder -- lasts longer, less gunky-feeling for oilier skintypes, fuss-free application

          - Likes both

which do you find has more staying power?
          - cream with powder over it

which do you find easier to apply?
          - powder for fast glow

          which do you usually use?
          - cream if I have a little more time and powder if Im rushing like mad

what do you think are the pros and cons of each?
          - powder> Fast and fool proof but can appear patchy at end of day sometimes and dun last me that long except for my Tricolore

          - cream > Stay long and even longer if I sweep my powder blusher over and looks very natural like from within. Current fav is Mac Coral Cast

I like both, and often use both together to achieve the glow as well as to make it stay and last longer.

which do you find has more staying power?
            cream

which do you find easier to apply?
            powder

            which do you usually use?
I usually either use gel/liquid/cream together with powder.

what do you think are the pros and cons of each?
Liquid/gel - more staying power, gives a blushing bride effect
Cream : Makes skin glow from within, easier to blend than liquid/gel
Powder - easy to apply... able to concentrate color on where u want it to be. Able to apply easily on top of cream and liquid to achieve a whole new shade!

i like both, cream cos' of the nice colours and easy to blend, powder cos' of the staying power and convenience for touchup!

which do you find has more staying power?

for me, powder cos' of my oily skin i think

which do you find easier to apply?

              cream

              which do you usually use?

              both

what do you think are the pros and cons of each?

Powder: good staying power, easy for touch-up

Cream: easy to blend, but not as lasting

what i do is apply cream blusher at home and then bring a powder blusher out for touchup

do you prefer cream or powder blushers and why?
I like both. I use both so it makes the powder more lasting and it gives a nice glow from within.

which do you find has more staying power?
                cream

which do you find easier to apply?
                powder

                which do you usually use?
I usually powder. When i have more time to play with makeup, i will use either liquid/cream together with powder.

what do you think are the pros and cons of each?
Liquid - more staying power, gives a natural blushing glow. Stain on fingers eg. Bentint.
Cream - It makes the skin glow from within. The texture makes blending easy.
Powder - Very easy to apply. Goes well with cream or liquid blusher.

do you prefer cream or powder blushers and why?
powder mostly - easy to control, do not accentuates lines, scars, etc
which do you find has more staying power?
I personally think cream has a higher staying power.
which do you find easier to apply?
                  definately powder
                  which do you usually use?
powder-easier, quicker, and don't have to consider the condition of my skin
what do you think are the pros and cons of each?
                  powder
pros: easy to control, do not accentuates lines and scars, suitable for most skin type
                  cons: short-lasting?
                  cream
pros: natural, stay on better, great for dewy look
cons: maybe greasier, more difficult to control.

ataraxia: I love cheek hues as well as stains! Both are very nice. I have all 3 cheek stains!

do you prefer cream or powder blushers and why?
Used to be powder but I find that as I age and my skin gets drier....*sob*....cream is working better for me because it gives that youthful, dewy glow that looks like it comes from within. They're such a doddle to blend as well, and perfect since I don't use foundation anymore these days.

which do you find has more staying power?
A combination of cream layered with powder (tip courtesy of Joce!)

which do you find easier to apply?
I have no problems with either, though cream does take a bit of practice initially as you figure out how much of each different product you need to put on....and how well it spreads / blends will depend on product texture as well.

                    which do you usually use?
Cream (Stila Lilium CC) and liquid (Benetint and Ayura liquid blush are my old faithfuls)

what do you think are the pros and cons of each?
                    Powder
                    1. Can be applied on top pf foundation and concealer, so ideal for people with acne / scars on their cheeks.
                    2. Easy to apply (sweep on with brush) and remove (sweep off excess with brush or lightly tissue off)
                    3. Suits oilier skins
                    4. BUT can accentuate fine lines
                    5. Not flattering on older / drier skins, especially if skin starts flaking off with the blusher on it....ewww....
                    6. Not as natural looking as cream / liquid blush can be

                    Cream
                    1. NO tools required except those you were born with - hands! Hence, good for travel.
                    2. No need for a base for it to adhere to, ie. a dusting of powder or foundation....works best on bare skin
                    3. Gives a more natural, dewy flush
                    4. Blending slightly tricky initially
                    5. Not for skin with acne or scars on cheeks; can't be applied well on top of foundation or powder, which means you can't conceal the blemishes
                    6. Not for oily skins - can make you look even greasier

Back then when glowy look is still a trend (or still is?), I like the idea of cream blush, but since I ALWAYS and NEVER without loose powders to set my mu, this didn't work for me. I have lots of them anyway and wear them occassionally, but powders still more practical IMHO.

do you prefer cream or powder blushers and why?
Prefer cream, coz it gives the glow-from-within look and better staying power.

which do you find has more staying power?
                              Cream.

which do you find easier to apply?
Cream. Coz of the texture, it's easier to spread.

                              which do you usually use?
Both. Cream first, then layer with powder.

what do you think are the pros and cons of each?
Cream - pros: stays better, creates the glowy look, no need to buy brushes.
Cream - cons: messier & have to dip your fingers in it

Powder - pros: less messy, good for layering so blush stay on longer.
Powder - cons: staying power not as good if used alone, accentuates dry, flaking spots
