Sky Lantern is now pretty commercialised so you can do it all year round, and both day and night time. In fact the annual Lantern Festival happened early in the year. And not neccessarily at Pinghsi though it is one of the places of origins. You can get to Pinghsi via the Pinghsi Rail Line which you can transfer from Rueifang Train Station.

Sky lantern can be release either day or night. Can get if from pingxi or shifen. Please note the timing of the trains to pingxi or shifen is fixed and only a few departure daily. So if you miss the train, you may need to wait for hours for the next. So pls check out the timing for to and fro.

This rate is better! The rate was 22.10 when I changed last two weeks at The Arcade.. But I heard from my friends that any rate above 22 is considered not bad already..

For those who have been to Hualien, I know there are night markets, can advice me if there's any shopping to do there during morning?
I'm thinking whether to take the 10am train or 12pm train back to Taipei..

Anyone knows if we book Train tickets online, how long before we must collect after booking?

Please advice me..

Step 1 (From) : Select FROM Taipei / Taipei
Step 2 (To) : Select TO Taipei / Rueifang
Step 3 : Select ALL Types trains
Step 4: Select dates

Please note: No direct train from Taipei Main station to pingxi line. Need transfer from rueifang. So this is to check out timing to rueifang.

Step 5: Select FROM Taipei / Rueifang
Step 6: Select TO Ping- hsi / Ping - hsi
Step 7: Select ALL Types trains
Step 8: Select dates

Please note: Repeat same for travelling back to Taipei. Change destination From pingxi to rueifang / rueifang to tapei


I suggest going to Shifen along pingxi line, go and have a look at the small nigeria waterfall

You can do shopping in hualien in the night. Personally, nothing to shop there. Went there twice, stroll along the streets for food and famous muah-chee. You can take the early train back

As for the tickets : 3 days from the date you book online. For example, if you book on the 12th aug, you need to collect the tickets by 14th Aug.

I booked Meeky Yang service last year, and i know now he charges NT3000 and above.

I think he no longer drove a cab.

Revised charges for Meeky Yang:

4 pax NT 3000
5 pax NT 3500
6 pax NT 4000
From here, you can see, additional charge of NT500 for extra person.

I came back! But unfortunately I met with typhoon in Hualien. THank goodness I stayed in this super nice minsu called Shangrila and the old couple are extremely nice to us. They brought us to wherever they can and cooked every meals for us FOC! Highly recommended to stay at their place. It's newly built and the rooms are so nice! Do let me know if anyone of you is interested!
