Hi ladies!!!im still new here..just need some feedback..*** is the min budget for weds? will $10-12k be sufficient for a wedding incl solemnization? Thank you
if you do combined, then okay, $20K, you split the cost with your partner. usually $10k only cover the food. catering nowadays is at least $10 per person. cost is high.
The safest budget would be $20k? My mum will be strongly disagree with combining..planning to get married end of 2014(is it too early to survey??) thinking of having about 700guest..just a simple majlis will do..but money will always be the prob..i *** start saving this laz mth..n its hard to *** as im quite a spendthrift..how do u girls manage dis??much help n tips needed
MyTong : Most caterers charge like $15000 for 1000 pax and perhaps $12000 for 500 pax. The difference is nomimal. If you are looking at 700 maybe you can do combined and total guests is 1500? I am doing combined as we are planning on 500 pax each and also to save cost on decor and venue.
About the savings, my partner and I just save about $1500 a month or more each. Basically it's in a separate account, so I won't touch it at all. Apart from that, we also have a combined account too which we started way before we got engaged. That's like back up money. Lol. I stopped all major shopping. just don't shop, make do with what I have for now. MUST TAHAN! Our parents offered to sponsor our wedding, so I guess we are saving up more on what happens after the wedding, like buying a house and stuff. One step at a time.

I dun think i can do combine since my mum keep rejecting my sisters idea for their wedding..that 'must tahan' part is the hardest thing to do till bf keep 'nagging' at me for nt saving up..hahaha
Ok **** weird..since when my name chg to mytong???
lol ok, this is funny, hehehe. maybe cozycot tengah problem. anyways the answer is for you then.
try combined account then, like $500 each month for a start?
Ya guess so...the app force shut *** now..actually he had been bugging to open a shared acct..but i keep running away from ***..guess *** really start soon!!20k in 2+yrs if its even possible:S
Adibah: Guys have to save more though, duit hantaran (borne by him). For you, 2 years = 24 months = $24000, it is slightly less than a thousand each month. SURE CAN DO! :D

Hi Adibah! (You have the same name as my older sis!)
I actually intended to start a blog called 'Confessions of A 10k Bride', because being idealistic, I thought I could buck the trend of extravagant spending on weddings, but after some surveying, I find that it's very hard to do. Actually it's not impossible, if one just does the nikah ceremony, a simple feast at home / void deck for family (and a handful of friends), one or two pairs of tailored outfits (not too fancy that they can be reused for Raya), makeup and photography by a friend or relative, do away with pelamin and dulang hantaran and bridal room deco and entertainment, and give out cheap door gifts. I would be the happiest bride if I could have my wedding that way, because not only do I spend the minimum (ultimately starting married life actually rich with money I saved over the years and NOT spent on a one-day event), but I get to avoid the hassle and headache of wedding planning.
800 - venue (mosque)
50 - extra 5 tables
50 - extra 100 chairs
1500 - deco (only with mosque package)
1200 - 2 baju (bride only) + 2 days' mak andam service (groom may have to rent / tailor elsewhere as he's a size 3XL - is this price just for bride's outfits and makeup worth it or overpriced?)
200 - extra baju (I actually prefer just one costume per day - same baju for nikah and reception - as I prefer spending time with guests rather than disappearing to get changed, but this is factored in just in case)
50 - trial makeup (provided I take up the bridal package)
500 - 500 pieces of berkat (any suggestions?)
200 - 200 invitation cards
800 - barang & dulang hantaran (DIY plus only essential things like Quran, prayer set, book on marriage, baju kurung tailored in JB, a cake)
6500 - catering 500 pax (13 per pax) (inclusive of kendarat and logistics fee of cooking at another venue outside the mosque and transporting the food, and washing service - any recommendations for caterers??)
3150 - photography, kursus nikah, ROMM registration & kadi booking fee
0 - entertainment (playing burnt CD of nasyid / maher zain / vetted love songs!)
Would appreciate suggestions and feedback, ladies!

Totally understand the need to keep to a budget.. The good news is it is possible so don't lose faith although there will be times when you feel like just giving in to parents' demands.. But just hold firm to things that you really deem unnecessary and give in to things that wont make much of a difference to you but will make them happier..
Just wondering if your photography includes videography? I am not the photo and video sort of person (I even thought of doing away with photography and getting my little brother to take photos using a normal digital camera) but I am glad that my cousin who does wedding videography helped to do the videos.. It was nicely done and I do look at it once in a while.. Also helps you to relive memories and catch up on things you have might have missed during the wedding..
