necessary to get enhanced HDB fire insurance on top of HDB's one?

Hi,

Current HDB fire insurance for home costs just $8 annually and it insures flat against fire.

The one provided by Chartis costs $62 annually. It insures against home furnishings and against 3rd party claims by neighbours. Will it be necessary to get this one also? tks.

The insurance provided by HDB covers only the structure built by them i.e. the pipes, sewage pipe, wall etc. In short it covers those things that you see when you first open the door after you collected the keys. <*Touch wood*> Unless the fire is damn jialat otherwise, it is very difficult to claim those insurance. The one provided by Chartis covers your private property. You need to read the coverage details. Some of the private insurance covers your property such as furniture, cash etc which usually will be damaged when fire occurs.
