I find this phenomenon very disturbing - like the PSC sponsored variety show on Saturday, which features latin dancing and the Friday night talent time on Channel U which almost always has children dressed up very very skimpily in order to show their dance skills. I love watching dancing etc, but this is a public screening. Do the parents not realize that it's dangerous for children to be showcased - there are pedophiles out there and publicly wearing so little clothing sexualizes them before their time, making them targets for these people. There have been cases of child beauty pageant queens getting kidnapped, sexually assaulted and killed. I don't know what these people are thinking. I'm pretty sure the kids don't wear that in their normal dance practice, and there are less skimpy alternatives out there. Professional dancers don't show that much skin. Sometimes they even use flesh-colored material to avoid "accidents" from happening, just to give the illusion of showing a little flesh for sexiness so as not to compromise the visual effect. Just because it hasn't happened here doesn't mean it won't. There are cases of child molest popping up in the newspapers every now and then. And it's not just limited to people the kids know. With the advent of the media, people need to show some common sense and responsibilty for their kids. The kids may like wearing beautiful costumes, the adult has to make the decision as to whether it's acceptable. That's what adults are for.

i never like to watch those kids perform on PSC shows. They all look cheap to me. Kinda remind me of child pornography. Nobody will know whether they are really happy to do all those acts, or just for fame and glory forced by their parents.
Why can't they just make it simple? think Christina Aguilera. She was a small girl with a big voice. She started out by taking part in singing competition as a small little girl, then edged out in Mickey Mouse Club and groomed to where she is today.

LOL, me and my hubby calls the PSC show the 'xiao3 yao1 jing1'* competition and neither of us can bear to watch the show for more than a few min, even when we're accidentally on that channel during their showtime.
* 'xiao3 yao1 jing1' = er...can someone help to translate?

i dislike it too. ugh..
plus this PSC thingy has bloomed into young girls singing at 'ge-tais' (erm.. what is it in english?).. was reading the papers during the seventh month period and there were articles on young girls in all their ge-tai-ish clothes during getai.
sigh.. innocence lost...

yeah yeah crystal... I was going to comment on that sometime back but never get around doing it!! IIRC, it's not only short, but tight fitting too!
Gosh, the little gal's outfit is so much like what a caucasion lass would wear in movies...
I don't even dress my gal this way in a hot summery Singapore!!
