  • Places that play live jazz

    Hello!

Does any one of you know where I can go to listen to 'live' jazz?
Where sultry vocals would be accompanied by the tinkling of the ivories or the plucking of the strings?

I know of Conrad Hotel, Jazz at Southbridge only.

Any one know where I can go for a relaxing evening of jazz and drinks?

    Thanks!

Sommerset's Bar (Raffles the Plaza) has lovely live jazz entertainment. Heard that Harry's @ Esplanade has live jazz going on too. Haven't checked it out though.

There's also Blue Note @ Boat Quay, went there the last time to celebrate a friend's bday it's right next to the Macdonald's, great ambience and drinks, but can get a bit crowded..

Harry's Bar @ Esplanade had live jazz last I was there, 2months ago? But I find that the place with all the restaurants clustered in that semicircle becomes quite noisy so can't enjoy, IMHO. Somerset bar is still. Haven't been to either for ages though.

[email protected] It's at the end of the boat quay stretch, above the coffee bean.

It's one of the best i've been so far... brought some friends there and they like it.

            Hmmm...

            Thanks ladies!

I was at [email protected] before but mostly it was musicians jamming away. I love it when they play coz you just tell how much they "feel" their music and are simply enjoying their instruments.

Hmm...I might go there again then.

Somerset Bar sounds good. Coz Raffles The Plaza wun be too noisy. But I'm reckoning if I wanna go there, I'll prolly have to dress up or something? Am very lazy these days. Hee!

Hmm...Harry's at Esplanade is kinda crowded and I don't really fancy the idea of going there. It's like it can get really packed. But I suppose if some jazz diva is gonna be there, I'll just go there anywayz. Hee!

Hmm...thanks again! O, by the way, can I just get a feel of how much drinks at the Somerset Bar would be?

            Thanks!

Went to Harry's Bar @ Esplanade months ago when there are performing live jazz not sure about now cos I heard that they stop.

Another live jazz that I is City Space. Can't remember if it's 70th or 71th floor but it's one level above Equinox at Westin Hotel (now Swissotel). Tel: 6837 3322 IMO, its a very cosy chill out place plus the fact that you literally feel as if you are standing on top of the world. The stunning view it gives of S'pore city. Never have I felt S'pore was this beautiful until I had dinner at ex-Compass Rose ages ago and now Equinox and City Space.

                    Hi pinkdustyrose

Where is this [email protected] that you were saying? I went to Conrad on Friday and the only live band that it has is on the ground floor.

                      hi queenie,

[email protected] is located at Boat Quay. I don't know the exact unit number but its right above Coffee Bean. There's a little entrance next to Subway (is it still there?) and Coffee Bean.

The last time I went, live music was on during 2 sessions; 9pm and 11pm. Try to get there early before each session to get good seats. Otherwise you'll be squashed together with other strangers!

They did?? Are they ever coming back? Some place else?

I think there's one joint near Lanson Place that does live jazz. Can't remember the name. Aubrey's maybe?

Serious jazz: [email protected] and Harry's @ Boat Quay are the dedicated venues for it.
Sunday nights are scheduled for jamming at Harry's at Boat Quay.

Keep a look out for Thomson Jazz band's schedule (google for their homepage), they have sub-groups pertaining to different jazz genres.

Of course, there's the perennial Chjimes jazz series and what nots to attend

Blue Note is more blues oriented as the name suggest, there are a few bars which veer towards blues than jazz.

There's a sad reduction in the number of 'live' jazz venue, probably due to economics and demand Nightspots have been switching to more popular stuff (mainstream pop, salsa etc.).

Ever heard the really old records just when jazz where in it's infancy? I could feel the 'hotness', and have to fan my collar.
Understood first hand why jazz was considered pornographic back in those times.
Like my friend said, 'the art of making love lies in the timing'
Jazz comes into mind. Whew! *fans*
