    Hola ladies!

Anyone here been to Cairns? Need recommendations on nightlife and shopping. Going in early March, but haven't really checked out info on the place yet. Any given will be much appreciated...for eg, where to buy Aussie stuff like Bloom and Jurlique, what to do in Cairns, great places to visit, etc. Primarily interested in shopping and nightlife, not so much of sea sports. Thanks so much!

If you're interested in the nightlife and shopping, then Cairns may not be the place to go. Sydney would be a better bet!
Most people visit Cairns for sporting activities. When I was there, i spent my days out of the city centre. Had tons of fun with white water rafting, visiting the Great Barrier Reef etc.

My impression of shopping there is quite fuzzy. It's probably because I didn't snag any good buys there!

Got no choice in the destination. Company sending us there for incentive trip. I know Cairns is great for water sports, snorkeling, etc...was just wondering about the shopping, nightlife and makan. I can't swim to save my life...can't even float...so I really wonder what's in store for me there.

Lucky you! I wish my company sends me on incentive trips like these.

The shopping there isn't much to shout about. IIRC, there's a shopping mall with Target in there. It was 4 years ago when I was there.

If shopping fails you, there's a casino to while your time away!

So generally Cairns is pretty boring for pple who don't do sea sports? I guess the only thing I'm looking forward to now is to experience The Great Barrier Reef and its legendary beauty.

Ahh well, a mall with Target is better than no mall, I suppose.

I wish my company was sending me to a more vibrant city instead...say Sydney if it has to be in Oz. Else, there's always Las Vegas half the globe away!

sorry to disappoint you but cairns is basially a little town that does not have much nightlife and shopping. i love the place, but that's coz i'm into diving and outdoor activities so i find cairns rather quaint. there is a shopping mall there, but it's not a huge one. i have not visited in 2,3 years though, so things might have changed since then.

That's what I thought. But I guess I shouldn't be complaining cuz this is, after all, a FOC company trip. A rather odd choice for them to send us to Cairns though.

                    WoW...envious of you
Wish my company sends us for incentive trips to cairns too...

Agree with the rest that there is barely night life in Cairns..all the sea sports, Great Barrier Reef and water rafting.
try snorkelling at the reef, its a sight.
                    and bungee jumping...

It's a lovely place for rest and relax though. You probably won't have time to go for a diving course since it's a company trip, but there are intro dives available. You definitely see much more stuff when diving compared to snorkelling.

While I agree that I'm pretty lucky to be going on a fully company-sponsored trip to Cairns, I must say the place holds little interest to me. Save for peering at pretty corals and treading water (I can't even float to save my life!), I think I won't be able to fulfill my shopping and nightlife interests there. Ahh well...any trip is better than no trip and I really ought to be grateful.

                          Hi there, girls!

I'll be going to Cairns and other cities in Oz in May (after graduation! can't wait!) and I'm just wondering whether water sports is still possible in the cold weather? What's great to do at Cairns.... how long do you think I should spend in Cairns before I move on? Will 4 days be enough?

I better start planning my trip!
